If these ads were implemented into media today, most of them they wouldn't be effective because some of these ads are pretty ridiculous.
The ad about ingesting sanitized tape worms is just absurd. Tape worms, regardless if they are sanitized or not, should never be intentionally ingested. Anyone willing to do this now to lose a few pounds is very idiotic. The ad also mentions no baths and no excercising as an added bonus to eating a tape worm. But back then, most people were looking for a quick fix for being overweight. So this ad would be effective then, but not now.
The Tipalet cigarette ad is next. In this day and age, some people cannot stand the smell of smoke when passing by someone smoking. So I can hardly believe anyone today would actually take in a breath of smoke from someone willingly today. But back when this ad was being used, people did not know the consequences of smoking and people thought it was cool to smoke. So this wouldn't be effective today either.
People eating lard? Well, some chefs use lard in substitute for butter or other things along the line of that. Also, lard is known to have nutrients beneficial to our systems, so maybe this ad might work. But the premise of it seems very odd. In case you were wondering, lard is pig fat. But remember, lard has both good and bad sides to it.
A doctor smoking a cigarette? Preposterous. We know what would happen today if we smoked. If anything, a doctor should be mad that a cigarette company asked to use his or her image in an ad for a product that has dangerous side effects. An ineffective ad for today. Even more ineffective than the Tipalet cigarette because a doctor is the one endorsing it.
